Circus Workshop

Circus Workshop

One sunny Sunday afternoon in May we met up with Marty from Circurama at North Stainley Village Hall. He had come down from Sunderland to teach us some circus skills. After a short introduction and demonstration he started to teach us some balance skills and juggling. We moved on to plate spinning and flower sticks (my favourite) and although Marty made everything look so easy we all started to pick things up with varying degrees of success. He had tailored his workshop to be suitable for a stage production so plenty of visual effects. It was a brilliant afternoon filled with laughter and a really good time was had by all. Huge thanks to everyone both actors and backstage crew for getting so involved. Some stars began to emerge; who knew Terrific Tania was so brilliant at plate spinning, Marvellous Mia made an amazing Ring Master and Trevor became closely acquainted with a peacock feather. Juggling Josh made it look pretty easy really!!! Although Amber showed us that none of these things are easy and they definitely need practice. Marty was on hand to offer tips and tricks to ensure everyone could get the most out of our afternoon and Hector even managed to squeeze in a private unicycle lesson!

The workshop gave me loads of ideas for our next production and I have a shopping list! The cast can expect presents soon and a summer of juggling spinning, pedalling and twirling ready for Hansel and Gretel rehearsals to begin in September.
